Abstract

This study aims to measure the rendement and characteristics of cajuput oil at various leaf sizes and analyze the effect of cajuput leaf size on the characteristics of cajuput oil. The method of distilling cajuput leaves using water, distilled plant material has direct contact with boiling water. The study design was a completely randomized design, with the first treatment factor intact leaves, both leaves were cut in two, and the three leaves were cut in three. The characteristics of cajuput oil measured were specific gravity, refractive index, solubility in 70% alcohol, cineol content. The results of the study characteristics of cajuput oil at various leaf sizes consisting of whole cajuput cajuput leaves obtained rendement of 0.59%, moisture content of 1.074%, density of 0.953, refractive index 1.467, solubility in alcohol 70% 1: 2, sineol content 71 , 67%. Leaves cut in two obtained rendement 0.49%, moisture content 0.842%, specific gravity 0.921, refractive index 1.465, solubility in alcohol 70% 1: 3, sineol content 63.33. The cut of cajuput oil leaves three obtained rendement 0.39, water content 0.908, specific gravity 0.924, bias inex 1.465, solubility in alcohol 70% 1: 4, cineol content 68.33%. The treatment of leaf size significantly affected the rendement, solubility in alcohol 70% and no significant effect on specific gravity, refractive index, and cineol content Keywords: cajuput oil, characteristic of cajuput oil, treatment of the size of cajuput leaves
